About the Niagara Escarpment Hearing Office

The Niagara Escarpment Hearing Office administers hearings under the Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act involving the Niagara Escarpment Plan. Before a proposal reaches the hearing stage, there will have already been a significant review process and a decision by the Niagara Escarpment Commission evaluating the permit or amendment application. The Niagara Escarpment Hearing Office hears appeals and applications from decisions of the Niagara Escarpment Commission in two situations. A hearing may be held to hear an appeal of a Niagara Escarpment Commission decision on a development permit. A hearing may be held to hear an application to amend the Niagara Escarpment Plan.
